Bikers and long-distance runners will love the proximity to the Lakefront Trail. The paved trail runs 18 miles along Lake Michigan from the north side of the city to the south side. The route takes residents past multiple beaches, Promontory Point (where Star Wars creator George Lucas recently got married), and on to the Museum of Science and Industry. It’s a scenic and rewarding way to explore the city. With lots of small green spaces scattered throughout, and, of course, the larger Burnham Park along the lakeshore, South Loop, Chicago apartments for rent are tremendous for pet lovers.

There’s no shortage of shopping in this neighborhood. Be sure to check out the Roosevelt Collection retail complex with the beautiful ShowPlace ICON Theater. Not only can you bring gourmet food and cocktails into the theater, but you can also get a gorgeous view of the skyline from the bar. The view of the city from the south is underestimated and well worth seeing! They also do reserved seating…fancy. 🙂

When it comes to transportation options, the South Loop has a lot going for it. It’s the only neighborhood with access to three major highways. That’s big news for those who plan on driving a lot. Lakeshore Drive runs along the waters of Lake Michigan, and not only offers an easy route to get from the north end of the city to the south, but a scenic drive. Highways 90 and the 94 offer easy access east into Michigan or west to the neighboring community of Rockford. For those fond of public transportation, you’ll find access to multiple train lines including the Metra and the CTA’s Green, Red, and Orange Lines, which can all take you easily into the Loop. The Orange Line is a direct shot to Midway Airport, the preferred airport of Chicago locals, and other lines make it easy to access the nearby communities of River North, Gold Coast, and Old Town.

Fun Fact

Stan’s Donuts just opened their second Chicago location at the Roosevelt stop. From our perspective, there isn’t a better donut on the planet… try the blueberry fritter, or just a good ol’ fashioned glazed. Delicious!
