New Luxury Apartments Set to Share Center Stage with Congress Theater

Chicago’s historic Congress Theater will soon have a new neighbor in the form of a luxury high-rise. The ultra-modern glass and metal apartment building, located on the corner of Milwaukee and Rockwell, will stretch up to mirror the vertical theater sign that’s been an icon in the neighborhood for decades.

We can’t wait for this building to open but for now, we do have some exciting previews to share.

Hip and Historical

The ornate Classical Revival and Italian Renaissance style Congress Theater building dates back to 1926 when it was a bustling historical movie palace. In the 90s, it transformed into a successful live music venue until the theatre closed in 2013.

A renovation revival is taking place in the neighborhood. A mix of old historic landmarks and innovative new developments is attracting a new crowd to the neighborhood. Amidst a backdrop of great restaurants and boutique shops, artists and designers are flocking to this once rough-and-tumble community.

Developer New Congress, LLC, and River North-based designer Woodhouse Tinucci Architects recently revealed a draft for the 10-story apartment building in Chicago’s Logan Square at 2135 N. Milwaukee.

The 184-unit building will house an upscale 44-room boutique hotel as well. 16,000 square feet of ground-floor retail will also be included. Fourteen units will be restored and remain affordable post-renovation.

Spotlighting Amenities

Being a transit-oriented development, the new apartments will contain no on-site parking but will contain a bike room instead. A rooftop lounge will offer residents great views and brews. Judging from other ventures by New Congress and Woodhouse, we anticipate tons more amenities as well.

Joining the pack of other pet-friendly apartments in the Logan Square area, there will be an elevated, in-house dog run – perfect for bad weather days. When the weather’s nice and you’d rather venture out, Logan Square’s designated dog area is just a half-hour lap down Milwaukee.

Just Outside Your Doorstep

Hip hangouts, delicious dining, and convenient shopping surround the Logan Square and Wicker Park area.

Grab groceries for dinner at Fresh Market Place. If you’d rather skip the hassle of cooking, satisfy your sushi craving at Ramen Wasabi or duck into one of the many other local restaurants.

The nightlife is always hopping at nearby places like Café Moustache where you can enjoy a microbrew and some light bites. Or, step back in time and play skee ball, pinball, and old-school arcade games while you sip some suds at Emporium Logan Square.
