Big plans are in store for more downtown luxury apartments in Chicago’s Lakeshore East. The neighborhood’s newest rental development, Parcel O, has yet to break ground at the corner of Columbus Drive and Randolph Street, nestling itself between the Aqua Tower and the Blue Cross Blue Shield building.
The mixed-use high-rise will feature studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom luxury apartments as well as two separate hotels.
The Appeal of Living in Lakeshore East
If you work downtown, want access to the Lake, or love to walk, Lakeshore East is a walker’s paradise. In fact, according to recent census data, 43% of the neighborhood’s residents walk as the main source of transportation. Based on that, let’s take a closer look at Parcel O, the newest luxury apartments coming to the Lakeshore East neighborhood.
Parcel O: Developers, Builders, and Designers
Seasoned developers Magellan Realty have partnered with LendLease to complete this expansive project. If you aren’t familiar with Magellan, they’re the brains behind Exhibit on Superior and Gallery on Wells, a pair of Chicago luxury apartments opened in 2017 in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.
BKL Architecture is the designer commissioned for Parcel O. Their impressive portfolio includes Coast at Lakeshore East and Wolf Point West in River North (which is getting a twin- Wolf Point East- here soon).
Residing at Parcel O: What to Expect
Nestled on the southwest end of Lakeshore East, Parcel O plans for two towers, one at 33 stories with 643 luxury apartments and the second at 20 stories, with a 322 room micro-pod hotel and a full-service hotel with 247 rooms. We know the amenities will offer an event space, multiple on-site restaurants, and 14,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Based on the rendering, there will be a large rooftop pool and cabanas as well.
Parcel O Connects to the Pedway
One of the best, and secret, benefits of living in Lakeshore East, and Parcel O specifically, is being connected to the Chicago pedway system. This surprisingly little known corridor provides direct, underground access between Lakeshore East and The Loop, making it easy to access work, public transportation, dining, and shopping while avoiding the outdoor elements.
According to the property’s development plans, Parcel O has plans on extending their 180 space parking garage into Aqua Tower’s pedway entry, so there will be direct access within Parcel O and to the Loop. We think this is pretty awesome!
If you end up living at Parcel O, you’ll find the following close to your new Lakeshore East home:
Right Outside Your Door
- 4-minute walk to coffee in the Pedway
- 5-minute walk to Mariano’s grocery store
- 6-minute walk to CTA Millennium Station for the Red and Orange Lines
Things to Do
- 6-minute walk to Millennium Park
- 6-minute walk to Lakeshore East Dog Park
- 6-minute walk to Grant Park
- 10-minute walk to Art Institute of Chicago
- 10-minute walk to shopping on State St
- 10-minute walk to Chicago Theater
Walk to Work
- 2-minute walk to AON Center
- 4-minute walk to Prudential Plaza
- 10-minute walk to NBC Tower
- 11-minute walk to Richard Daley Center
- 13-minute walk to Tribune Tower
- 13-minute walk to Wrigley Building
We’re fairly certain Parcel O will be a pet-friendly luxury apartment building and with the Lakeshore East dog park just a short walk away, there is plenty for your canine companion to soak up outdoors.
I love Lakeshore East and it’s slightly removed neighborhood. It’s almost as if it’s a little suburb within downtown Chicago. If you’d like more info on Lakeshore East or any other downtown Chicago luxury apartments, let us know what you’re looking for and we’re glad to help!
