West Loop Apartments “The Duncan” Set to Replace Salvation Army Location

The Duncan Apartments future home

The Salvation Army Freedom Center on Monroe and Ashton served its purpose for over a century and now, it’s time for a change. Construction at The Duncan has progressed quickly, and soon new luxury apartments will join the West Loop Chicago neighborhood.

FLAT-Out Fabulous

The developer, Cedar Street Companies, stayed in theme with much of the West Loop architecture, turning the 3-acre site at 1515 W Monroe into a brick and mason low-rise, complete with 260 residential flats and ground floor retail.

Judging from their past projects like Bush Temple in River North and The Alfred which recently opened in the Loop, no doubt Cedar Street will work their magic on these downtown luxury apartments as well.

The entire building is being designed to be transient oriented and, based on its location, will be convenient to mass transit. Why drive when you can ride, right? It will also house 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

High Living on the Down Low

If all goes as planned, the doors of these new West Loop apartments will open in the spring of 2020. While we are referencing them by their “pre-construction name”, The Duncan, nothing’s official on that quite yet. Maybe they’ll put a Dunkin’ on-site in that empty retail space and visitors can be “Dunkin’ at the Duncan”!

Here’s what we do know –

Two hundred and sixty units are in the making – 92 studio units, 91 1-bedroom units, and 53 2-bedroom units.

Amenities will include a lobby coffee shop, community lounge, and a bar. As with all FLATS buildings, we anticipate rooftop entertainment and a fitness center.

In keeping with the other FLATS residences, we expect this residence to join the ranks of the other pet-friendly apartments in the West Loop. That will work out great since Skinner Dog Park is right next door and Union Park is just a two-block trot down the street.

Hook Into The Loop

The Duncan will be nicely situated on the edge of a West Loop neighborhood that has seen a world-class transition in the last seven years. Some of Chicago’s newest and best food, shopping, and entertainment will be a nice walk right out your door.

Just a 10-15 minute walk to the Rush Medical center (one of the largest medical districts in the US), the Duncan’s location will be great for residents and health care professionals (and normal people like us who get sick every once in a while).

For sports enthusiasts, a 10-minute walk gets you to the United Center for some Chicago Bulls and Blackhawk action.

Hungry? Head on down to Restaurant Row, where you can feast. Satisfy your shopping urge at the myriad of boutiques and retail shops. End the day or begin the night with some sips and suds at one of the many clubs or pubs.
