New in the West Loop: Plans for Two Residential Towers at 171 N Racine and 168 N May

There’s something new cooking up for the old sausage plant on Lake Street between May and Racine as two new downtown Chicago luxury apartment towers rise up in the West Loop. Currently holding the addresses of 171 N Racine and 168 N May, the multi-building development is being called the “Amylu Collection” in honor of the property owner and long-time sausage producer, Amylu Foods.

Incredible Location

Once an industrial meatpacking district, the West Loop has exploded into some of the finest eateries and best bars and is bustling with excellent spots to shop. It’s bursting at the seams with endless entertainment venues. It’s the neighborhood folks love to play in… and live in!

And now… they’ll have not one, but two, more apartments in Chicago’s West Loop to chose to do so in.

Developing Development and Dynamic Design in Progress

Plans are still in progress as the waiting game is in play with zoning approval from the city yet to be official. If the multi-use buildings get the green light, total construction time is expected to be around 20 months. According to the developer, the LG Development Firm, the apartments would take off first and the proposed office building would run about four months behind.

Chicago-based LG Development has served the city for over 15 years, bringing excellence to every endeavor they embark upon. The firm is currently working on 1220 W Jackson, a 10-story Downtown Chicago apartment rental project.

A global leader in the field, NORR Architects is heading up the design.  Their portfolio includes stunning hotels, restaurants, resident apartment towers, and justice buildings all around the world.

All the Details

Plans include a 20-story tower that would stand 238 feet tall and a 22-story building proposed to stretch 245 feet skyward. Together, the two residential towers would bring 484 more residential units into the West Loop.

An estimated twenty-five percent of the units will be studios. Half will be 1-bedroom apartments and the remaining twenty-five percent will be 2-bedroom residences.

On the fifth floor, a luxurious deck will house two swimming pools. There will be 220 parking spaces and ground-floor retail. An amenity-filled common-space podium will connect the two towers.
