Hotspot Pick: Xavier-The Most Dog Friendly Apartments in Old Town

As a fellow dog owner, I know how difficult it can be to find dog friendly apartments in Chicago. Since Old Town is booming, I polled our agents here at Hotspot Rentals and asked them about their favorite dog friendly apartments in Old Town. Overwhelmingly, Xavier Apartments were the ones. Let’s take a closer look.

Xavier is located in the historic Old Town district that has tons of beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy on your long Sunday walks. These new apartments focus on green energy and recycling, without giving up on luxury. In addition to their drive for sustainability, the building boasts:

  • Open, modern living spaces
  • Hardwood flooring throughout, including in the bedrooms
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows
  • In-unit washers and dryers
  • 24-hour security
  • Fitness facilities
  • Outdoor pool
  • Bike parking

What Makes Xavier Stand Out Among Other Chicago Dog Friendly Apartments?

To put it simply, the building caters to dogs and their owners. Here’s how:

  • All floors of Xavier are dog friendly (typically, only certain floors are)
  • They accept German Shepherds and Siberian Huskies (most downtown Chicago apartments won’t even consider these breeds)
  • Indoor/outdoor dog run (during the summer, the glass doors open to create a massive indoor AND outdoor space)
  • The indoor space is perfect for doggy playdates and birthday parties
  • Grooming stations
  • Steps from the Stanton Park dog park
  • A community of dog owners

When I stopped by the building, it was clear this was a tight-knit community who cares for their pets. The staff are super friendly and on a first-name basis with the resident dogs … totally adorable.

Fin (above) belongs to one of Xavier’s employees and comes to work most days of the week. The staff knows how to accommodate pet owners because they’re pet owners themselves. That makes a huge difference!

I caught a charming duo, Laura and Pepper the poodle, on their way to the Stanton dog park, just a short walk from the building. They recently relocated to Chicago, and after lots of searching, found Xavier. It turned out to be a perfectly balanced community with plenty of green spaces for Pepper and an urban environment for herself.

I was also lucky enough to run into a most gentle husky, Mush, with her parents, Phil and Katie. “What’s one word you would use to describe Mush?” I asked. After a quick consensus, “loving”, was their reply.

“Renting at Xavier was the best thing for us and Mush. We feel welcomed and Mush loves all her canine neighbors, especially her boyfriend, another fellow Husky. We moved here so Mush could have access to great parks and the indoor/outdoor dog run is the perfect meeting space in the mornings, before everyone heads off to work.”

Talking with various residents, I found a lot of the same sentiment.

Living in an Old Town apartment affords you a multitude of conveniences. Tons of shops and restaurants are at your fingertips, a lot of which have lovely dog-friendly patios. Bentley’s Pet Stuff turned out to be a resident favorite pet shop and is a 10-minute walk from Xavier (Two words: they deliver).
