Luxury Apartment Buildings Near the Merchandise Mart in Chicago

When we spend at least five days a week commuting to work, sometimes it’s just easier to live closer to your job – mostly so you have more time to do the fun stuff you enjoy! For those of you who work at or near Merchandise Mart (and I know there are a lot of you), here are some luxury apartments in downtown Chicago that are within walking distance of this art deco landmark.

River North Luxury Apartments

Located a mere two blocks from the Mart, The Jones was built in 2015 and features amazing views through their floor-to-ceiling windows. Their well-designed amenities include a fitness facility and rooftop lounge, complete with full chef’s kitchen (it’s an ideal place to crank out large quantities of hot wings), pool table and a tv viewing area for you to kick back with some friends to watch a game or show.

Steps away from the Mart, Wolf Point West has the unique distinction of sitting right at the “Y” in the river, providing some of the most spectacular views offered in the entire city. Opened in 2016, the river gallery room leads directly into an elegant outdoor pool area that overlooks the river. With it’s eclectic blend of mid-century modern design and club room (with golf simulator, of course), you’ll feel the refined architectural detailing in every aspect of this luxury Chicago apartment. A dog friendly building, it even has its own on-site dog run and bath spa, making sure your furry friend will feel as pampered as you do!

Luxury Apartments in the Fulton River District

Nestled on the other side of the river in the Fulton River District, Left Bank is less than a ten minute walk to the Mart. With it’s easy access to night-life, restaurants, public transportation and expressways, this luxury building features an on-site convenience store, lush deck with grills and fire pit, and even a private dog park.

Approximately the same walk to the Mart as Left Bank, Alta at K Station is another modern green-living luxury building. From the outdoor pool, Jacuzzi spa, and private cabanas to the outdoor gourmet kitchen, this building’s main feature is the only full size indoor sports court in Chicago’s Fulton River/West Loop area. One of Chicago’s best-known Mexican restaurants, Blue Agave, is also located at Alta.

An added bonus of living in this neighborhood is price. Being on the “other side” of the river adds about 5-10 minutes to your walk to the Merchandise Mart, but probably saves you about 15% in rent (based on a quick check of one bedroom pricing in each of these buildings as of today). We actually wrote a whole piece comparing River North and Fulton River… check it out!

Loop Luxury Apartments

On the other side of the river, on the edge of the Loop, this pet friendly downtown apartment building is a mere four minute walk to the Mart. You’ll love what 200 Squared has to offer with its indoor lap pool, fitness center with locker rooms, sprawling garden deck with gas grills and a pet walk for Fido.

Finally, there’s 111 W Wacker which is a seven minute walk from the Mart. This modern and timeless building features inspired interiors of Kara Mann Design. Get ready to enjoy the outdoor living space with sundeck, lounge seating, fire pit, private outdoor kitchens with barbecue grills, and a resort quality indoor pool with a retractable wall that opens to the sundeck. It’s also a smaller building, with under 250 total units, so it has the benefit of feeling a bit more boutique-like.

If the Merchandise Mart is part of your daily or weekly routine, choosing any of the above luxury apartment buildings is a great choice. All are super convenient with easy access to everything the city has to offer.
